My path

I began my career as a music educator in the public schools and promptly learned that effective teaching has nothing to do with how much you know or how great you think you are. My first year of teaching I imagined a giant banner facing me from the back of the classroom that said IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU.

Effective teaching is about 1) recognizing the inherent value that all learners possess, and 2) creating environments that allow those learners to feel safe to explore new ideas, consider different perspectives, and even fail.

Those lessons followed me into corporate learning. All of us from ages 9 to 99 want to be heard, understood, and valued.

While the work has varied, the method has remained the same: Build rapport and cultivate resourcefulness. Give people the tools, the means, the resources, and the self-confidence, and then get the hell out of the way. This holds true across onboarding, workshop facilitation, knowledge management, and teaching elementary school music.

I teach people how to be great.
